BPJPH: Produk Non-Halal Wajib Diberi Keterangan Tidak Halal

Jakarta (BPJPH) — The Halal Product Assurance Organizing Body (BPJPH) has affirmed that non-halal products manufactured and circulated in Indonesia must be clearly labeled as non-halal. BPJPH Head Ahmad Haikal Hasan stated that the mandatory halal policy, as regulated in Law Number 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Assurance (JPH), aims to provide legal certainty and consumer protection, not to restrict the circulation of specific products.

"The circulation of products must comply with the applicable Halal Product Assurance regulations. Those with halal certification must display the Indonesian halal label. Non-halal products must also be clearly marked with non-halal information," emphasized Babe Haikal, the familiar nickname for Ahmad Haikal Hasan, in Jakarta on Wednesday (February 12, 2026).

Babe Haikal continued that non-halal products can still be produced and distributed, provided they meet the applicable requirements. According to Halal Product Assurance regulations, products derived from forbidden (haram) materials must clearly state their non-halal status in a manner easily readable by consumers.

"With clear labeling distinguishing between halal and non-halal products, the public can make conscious choices according to their respective beliefs and needs. On the other hand, business actors gain regulatory certainty and increased market trust, both domestically and internationally," explained Babe Haikal.

In distribution and sales practices, non-halal products must also be separated from halal products to avoid errors, mixing, or potential cross-contamination. This is part of the traceability principle within the halal product process (PPH), which forms the foundation of the halal product assurance policy.

"The halal product assurance policy is neither discriminatory nor does it restrict business operations. On the contrary, this regulation is designed to create a transparent and fair business ecosystem that provides certainty for all business actors, both producers of halal products and producers of non-halal products," he asserted.

He also added that on a global scale, halal has evolved into a universal product standard and is no longer limited to countries with Muslim-majority populations. Many countries, such as China, the United States, Australia, Brazil, and others, have adopted halal certification as a quality standard and a gateway to international markets, enabling their halal products to be exported worldwide and representing significant economic potential.

"Today, halal is not just about religion; it is about quality standards and global market trust. Halal has become a growth economy engine, an economic driver with enormous and continuously growing potential," added Babe Haikal.

"With the various potentials we possess, Indonesia must not only be a market for halal products from other countries. We must become a major producer and a key player in the global halal supply chain, ensuring our halal products contribute significantly to our national economic growth," he concluded.
